Ethan Winkler, MD, PhD is a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon and scientist at the University of California San Francisco. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Department of Neurological Surgery and Director of the Vascular Anomalies & Stroke Computation (VASC) Laboratory. Through his research, Dr. Winkler utilizes his unique perspective to better understand the biologic basis of debilitating diseases that result in stroke, including vascular malformations and aneurysms. By employing emerging genomic and stem cell technologies, his group is currently studying the cell-specific genetic mechanisms responsible for the formation and progression of these vascular lesions with the goal of developing new precision therapeutics to ultimately improve patient care.
