Dr. John D. Davis is a founding partner of NewSouth NeuroSpine in Flowood, MS. NewSouth is the largest multispecialty spine-focused practice in Mississippi, widely known for its emphasis on quality, ethical, and cost-consious surgical and non-surgical care carried out by experienced physicians with exceptional training. The state's only University Medical Center's neurosurgery and orthopedic residents all complete a several month rotation at NewSouth. Prior to starting his neurosurgical practice in his home state of Mississippi, Davis spent eleven years in Baltimore, MD, where he was elected to AOA during medical school at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Davis completed his training in neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1999 while also obtaining a Masters Degree in Health Finance and Management. Prior to matriculating at Johns Hopkins, Davis graduated summa cum laude in Biological Engineering from Mississippi State University where he was elected student body president and Mr. MSU and where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Davis has served organized neurosurgery in multiple capacities, including as President of the Mississippi Neurosurgical Society, MS Delegate to the CSNS, CSNS SE Quadrant Chairman, AANS Board of Directors, Neurosurgery PAC Board Chairman, and as a member of neurosurgery’s Washington Committee. Davis currently serves as an appointee to the MS Board of Health and as a long-standing member of the MS Workers’ Compensation Commission Advisory Board. He has served as Chief of the Medical Staff at River Oaks Hospital and as an Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant for the NFL.
John has also been engaged and recognized for community service outside of healthcare. He was selected as the 2021 Alumni Fellow for the MSU Bagley College of Engineering as well as the MSU Central MS Alumnus of the Year. He was MSU’s Fall Commencement Speaker in 2017, and he currently serves in his third term on MSU’s Foundation Board of Directors and on the Kid’s Chance of Mississippi Scholarship Selection Committee. Davis is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson (MS) where he serves as a Deacon.
Dr. Davis and his wife, Lesley, reside in Flowood, MS, and they have three grown sons, Jack, Charlie, and Will.
