Daniel Herrick, MD, PhD is a PGY6 Neurosurgery Resident at Stanford University. He completed his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Tufts University School of Medicine where his Ph.D. research detailed olfactory neural stem cell responses to acute injury. He is passionate about leveraging translational science, health technology innovation, and his unique clinical training in both neurosurgery and neurocritical care to improve outcomes for patients with acute injury to the brain and spine. Active areas of research include the identification of biomarkers for central nervous system injury, predicting outcomes following spine fusion surgery, and improving the use of evidence-based guidelines in the care of neurosurgical ICU patients. In 2022-2023, he was the inaugural CAST Neurosurgery Neurocritical Care Fellow at Stanford and was also awarded intramural funding to pilot a novel translational human CSF biomarker study in patients with severe TBI.
