Neevya Balasubramaniam is a third-year medical student at McGill University. Her research interests include neuro-oncology, epilepsy, intraoperative imaging in neurosurgery, diffuse tractography, and AI applications in neurosurgery. She collaborates with the Neurological Simulation Lab in Montreal with Dr. Del Maestro, the Montreal Children's Hospital under Dr. Dudley, and the Montreal Neurological Institute with Dr. Guberman. Additionally, she partners with Military University in the Czech Republic under Dr. Cerny's guidance.
Passionate about advancing neurosurgical practices, Neevya co-founded Mission: Brain Canada to promote the safe globalization of neurosurgery and provide neuroscience and surgical education to underserved communities in Montreal, starting in mid-2024. She envisions a future where technological advancements, coupled with skilled surgeons, yield improved clinical outcomes. Recognized as a Molina Scholar and recipient of the American Osler Bean Award for her research on the Central Nervous System in 18th-century Japan, Neevya is dedicated to shaping the future of neurosurgery.
