Medical Student
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
My name is Paulo Castro, I'm a third year medical student at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I was raised in Allentown, Pa., and went to West Chester University for my undergraduate degree in physics. I was originally hoping to become a physicist, but later realized I didn't like being in the lab and decided to pursue medicine. I find the treatment of congenital anomalies to be one of the most interesting aspects of medicine and have worked on a few research projects involving esophageal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, Meckel’s diverticulum, and hydrocephalus. I think most of my friends and family would describe me as laid back and kind of a goofball. When I have free time, I like to spend it with my friends or go snowboarding if it's winter, though I've been going a lot less since starting medical school. In the future, I hope to open my own research group and practice medicine in South America for at least a year or two.
