Dr. O’Leary currently practices in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin for Advocate Health and is the Vice President of the Neuroscience Service Line for the Midwest region. He currently is a board member of the American Association of Neurological Surgery as the Northwest Regional Director. He is a past president of the Illinois State Neurosurgical Society and has been the Northwest Quadrant Director of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS). He believes strongly in local and national representation and has been an Illinois state delegate to the CSNS for over 10 years and a member of the AANS since residency.
Dr O’Leary received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and was awarded the Stacy L Rollins Jr., MD Outstanding Student of Neurosurgery at graduation. He also completed a doctorate in organic chemistry at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ under the mentorship of Robert L. Augustine, PhD in organo-metallic catalysis. In addition, he has recently completed a masters in health care management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, MA.
He completed his residency in neurological surgery under chairman Mark L. Rosenblum, MD, at The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. This included an internship in general surgery and a chief resident year in neurosurgery awarded with distinction. He completed a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery under the guidance of Roy A. E. Bakay, MD, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and continues as an assistant professor of neurological surgery. He also completed a fellowship in peripheral nerve surgery under the guidance of David G. Kline, MD, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA.
He is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. O’Leary’s areas of specialization include diagnosing and treating complex spine and peripheral nerve problems, including tumors. He treats patients with disorders requiring stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, including neuromodulation, restorative neurosurgery,and stereotactic radiosurgery.
