James Leiphart MD, PhD is specialty care physician board certified in neurological surgery at the Inova Health System and a Professor of Neurosurgery with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Inova Campus. He has been practicing in the Inova Health System for over 20 years. He has a special interest in management of epilepsy and complex pain syndromes.
Dr. Leiphart was awarded his B.A., M.D. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University, completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurosurgery at the UCLA Medical Center, and completed his fellowship in Epilepsy Surgery with Dr. Dennis Spencer at Yale University.
Dr. Leiphart is the Director of Education for Inova Neurosciences and the Inova Fairfax Hospital Neurosurgery Residency Program Director. He is faculty with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Inova Campus where he holds the title of Professor. Dr. Leiphart has been the recipient of several research grants including funding from the NIH and the US Department of Defense. Dr. Leiphart has authored over 40 peer reviewed articles and book chapters and has completed over 100 national and international presentations.
A native of Muncie, Indiana, Dr. Leiphart currently resides in Arlington, VA.
