Dr. Abhaya V. Kulkarni is a pediatric neurosurgeon, Senior Scientist, and Associate Chief of Surgery/Peri-Op Services at Hospital for Sick Children, and Professor and Vice-Chair, Culture & Inclusion, in the Division of Neurosurgery, University of Toronto. He is lead neurosurgeon for the Ontario Fetal Centre. He was Residency Program Director for Neurosurgery from 2010-2020. He began his faculty appointment at Hospital for Sick Children in 2003. Dr. Kulkarni’s research focuses on clinical trials, health outcome, and quality of life in pediatric neurosurgery, with special emphasis on hydrocephalus. He is a site investigator for the North American Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network and has received research funding from several national and international funding agencies, including over $12 million in active National Institutes of Health principal investigator funding. Dr. Kulkarni has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, including in New Engl J Med, JAMA, and The Lancet, and has served on the editorial boards of Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics. He is also a leader in organized neurosurgery, serving as a Director for the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Accreditation Council of Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowships, and on the executive board of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
