Dr. Jason Cormier, FACS, FAANS is a native of South Louisiana, where he graduated from St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, LA. As a former LSU basketball player and graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, he went on to receive his medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Cormier joined Acadiana Neurosurgery and its founder Dr. Alan Appley after his internship in general surgery and neurosurgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC and the completion of his training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham AL. During his training, he gained extensive experience in complex spinal surgery and has also received special training in minimally invasive spinal surgery as well as open and endoscopic brain surgery.
Dr. Cormier is an active part of the neurosurgical community, both locally and nationally. He provides consulting services to several spine companies, along with sitting on multiple medical advisory boards; including being a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration. In 2021, Dr. Cormier was elected to and served as the 19th President of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics. Dr. Cormier has been named as one of “America’s Top Surgeons,” in the field of Neurosurgery, by the Consumers Research Council of America, Guide to America’s top surgeons and currently listed as one of the leading physicians in the world for Neurosurgery. His busy practice involves performing complex brain and spinal operations on patients from around the country that seek out his surgical acumen.
He has published articles in national journals involving several publications in the fields of Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgery. Dr. Cormier continues to stay on the cutting edge of neurosurgery from integrating newer technologies during awake craniotomies with intraoperative brain mapping to designing spinal implants, techniques and technologies that provide smaller safer corridors that translate to better outcomes. Dr. Cormier maintains his interests to train Neurosurgeons of tomorrow and teaches both medical students and residents many innovative neurosurgical techniques; including endoscopic pituitary and image-guided surger.
Acknowledged as one of the country’s leading neurosurgeons, Dr. Jason Cormier, crafted his strategic partnership with the ARCA racing series’ safety initiative Program to form a “Motorsports Healthcare Education Plan” Medical car- a high profile, interactive activation designed to reach millions of race fans throughout the country. Utilizing the strength and demographic reach of NASCAR and the ARCA racing series, their mission is to provide a comprehensive, grassroots marketing campaign focused on preventative health care education and wellness training. With an emphasis to educate and engage race fans in their growing role as healthcare consumers, their objective is to influence behavioral changes, to provide racing’s brand-loyal audience with the medical knowledge to make informed, preventative decisions which directly affect the wellness of their families.
Dr. Cormier, who just completed his book “Driven”, a snapshot into the trials, tribulations, and success of his life, can be found spending his free time with family, producing music, and racing go carts; among other things.
