Medical Student
Centro Universitário Maurício de Nassau (Uninassau), Brazil
Barbara Rayne Santos de Alencar, a 24-year-old medical student in her 6th year at Uninassau University Center, medical school in Recife-PE, Brazil. Achieving the top rank in the entrance exam, I was fortunate to receive a full scholarship for half of the course. My academic journey began at Colégio Militar do Recife, where I was recognized as a member of the Legion of Honor and a second lieutenant cadet. I have excelled in astronomy, winning medals in the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad and participating in international qualifiers. Additionally, I have gained admissions to esteemed military institutions such as AFA, EFOMM, ESPCEX, and IME-RJ. Currently, I serve as a research academic member of the Brazilian Academy of Neurosurgery (ABNc) and direct the Neurosurgery Academic League at Uninassau, LANEC. I also work as a monitor in Applied Medical Radiology, focusing on Cranial Radiology. Passionate about scientific research, I have authored numerous publications in Brazilian Public Health, including original literature reviews in the Brazilian Journal of Neurosurgery (JBNc). My clinical cycle in medical school sparked a profound affinity for Neurology and Neurosurgery, which I furthered through internships at prestigious hospitals like Hospital da Restauração (HR), Hospital Memorial São José, Real Hospital Português, and Hospital São Mateus. Currently, I am focusing on my main pre-internship article, conducting a comprehensive literature review on the use of spinal cord stimulators (SCS) in chronic pain management, aiming to analyze the paradigms of using SCS with and without paresthesia and comparing recent evidence of High-Frequency SCS and Burst SCS.
