Filipi Fim AndreĆ£o is a medical student at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), currently undertaking his internship. Born in a small Brazilian countryside town with a population of 20,000, he spent his childhood surrounded by nature, animals, and a passion for learning. After attending a federal high school where he graduated not only in academics but also in a technical course in agroindustry, Filipi found himself drawn to the field of medicine.
In medical school, Filipi actively volunteered as a tutor for various subjects, including urinary tract and reproductive system anatomy in the early years of his medical graduation. In addition to this role, he has served as an official tutor for neuroanatomy, cardiovascular system anatomy, internal medicine, and physical examination (semiology). Filipi co-founded the Academic League of Neurosciences at the UFRJ, where he organized and led classes focused on basic neuroscience subjects and basic research.
Currently, Filipi serves as the coordinator of research projects in the Academic League of Neurosurgery at the UFRJ. He is also actively involved in the neuropathology laboratory of the University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho, where he investigates biomarkers of central nervous system tumors, particularly focusing on epigenetics. His journey led him to pursue neurosurgery, a career path that resonated deeply with his aspirations and values.
Throughout his medical education, Filipi has been inspired by the intricate work of neurosurgery and the transformative impact it has on patients' lives. He thrives in the operating room, finding fulfillment in the smiles of patients after successful treatments. Guided by his passion and dedication, Filipi has had the privilege to work alongside renowned neurosurgeons in Brazil and internationally.
In 2022, Filipi co-founded the MB Research Group, a platform dedicated to scientific research and mentorship. Under his leadership, the group has flourished, with nearly 70 articles published in esteemed journals and a mentorship program that has empowered students to pursue scientific inquiry. With a focus on inspiring and guiding the next generation of researchers, Filipi and his team are expanding their initiatives to include online courses on article writing and scientific research methodologies.
Filipi is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Neurosurgery, with the status of an aspiring student member. He has garnered experience in conducting and coordinating systematic reviews and meta-analyses, contributing to the advancement of neurosurgical research.
Driven by his diverse interests, Filipi's areas of focus within neurosurgery span across general neurosurgery, endovascular procedures, hydrodynamics, spine surgery, neuro-oncology, and clinical research.
Filipi is also actively involved in a project studying humanities, philosophy, and anthropology in medicine. He organizes monthly classes discussing philosophical topics relevant to becoming a compassionate physician. Additionally, he facilitates book debates, fostering intellectual discourse among peers.
Being invited to present at AANS 2024 is a dream come true for Filipi, marking a significant milestone in his journey as a future neurosurgeon and educator. He looks forward to sharing his insights and experiences with fellow professionals, contributing to the advancement of neurosurgery, and inspiring others to pursue their passions relentlessly.
