Undergraduate Neurosurgery Clinical Research Intern
University of Colorado Boulder, Boulder, Colorado; Children's Hospital Colorado, Aurora, Colorado
My name is Sophia Blasco, and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am pursuing a major in Integrative Physiology and Spanish Language and Literature. As the daughter of immigrants, my parents from an early age instilled within me an innate desire to learn and expand my knowledge through curiosity. Naturally, from an early point in my college career, research had quickly captivated my curiosity and interest. Moreover, I have developed a profound respect for clinical research, ensuring precise and accurate results that can apply to real-life problems.
I am very grateful to be in my third year as a clinical research intern in the neurosurgery department at Children's Hospital Colorado. My projects within the neurosurgery department focused on: ETV success scores; appropriate pre-op dosage for intrathecal baclofen; baclofen pump incisions; the deviation of the sagittal sinus in unilateral craniosynostosis; head growth of infants with bathrocephaly; and how vascularized pericranial flap is a method to prevent persistent skull defects after craniectomy for sagittal synostosis
