Michael Levitt, M.D., is a neurosurgeon at the Neurological Surgery Clinic and Cerebrovascular Lab at Harborview. Dr. Levitt is also a UW associate professor of Neurological Surgery and Radiology and an adjunct associate professor of Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and of the American Heart Association (FAHA). He is also an Associate Program Director of the Neurological Surgery residency program.
Dr. Levitt specializes in minimally invasive treatment of diseases of the brain and spine. He provides microsurgical and endovascular expertise, often in combination, to approach each patient’s medical needs. He believes a patient’s quality of life is the most important factor in medical care.
Dr. Levitt graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Chicago, and then completed his neurological surgery residency at the University of Washington. He received advanced training in minimally invasive endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disease at the Barrow Neurological Institute.
Dr. Levitt is the Scientific Director of the Stroke & Applied Neuroscience Center at the University of Washington. He is the Principal Investigator of major grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association for his translational research on computer simulations of cerebral aneurysm treatment, and has also received grants for the study of the effects of stroke and aneurysms on cell genetics. He is an Assistant Editor of the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery.
