Chairman
Yeditepe University School of Medicine
Istanbul, TR
Dr. Türe graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara in 1987 and started with his neurosurgery residency at Şişli Etfal Hospital in Istanbul. During and following residency he studied microsurgery and surgical neuroanatomy under the supervision of Professor Yaşargil, in Zurich, Switzerland. Following residency, Dr. Türe took position as attending neurosurgeon in Sisli Etfal Hospital, Istanbul between January 1993 and January 1995.
He went on to study surgical neuroanatomy between January 1995-July 1997 under the supervision of Professor Yaşargil and Professor Al-Mefty at the UAMS, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. After returning to Turkey in August 1997 he started working as assistant professor in Istanbul at the Marmara University and became associate professor in November 1999. Later Dr. Türe continued working at Ondokuz Mayis University in Samsun where he was appointed professor in March 2005. In August 2005 Dr. Türe established the neurosurgical department at Yeditepe University Hospital in Istanbul. He has been the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery since then.
Dr. Türe’s works in surgical neuroanatomy and surgical techniques have been published in numerous significant neurosurgical journals and books.
Dr. Türe showed special interest in white matter dissection after getting familiar with this technique in 1991 in Zurich. He worked on this topic utilizing the microscope and suction tube when doing so for the first time and developed a step-wise simple teaching method. After improving this technique, he presented it to the neurosurgical community by teaching neurosurgeons from all over the world with workshops and visiting laboratories internationally. With these courses more than thousands of neurosurgeons have been educated on white matter dissection worldwide.
After building a surgical neuroanatomy laboratory at the Yeditepe University Hospital in May 2008, the cultivation of white matter dissection continued under his surveillance. International fellows have since had the chance to join to learn and improve this technique in this laboratory. In 2010, Dr. Türe established the “Istanbul Microneurosurgery Course” with his mentor Professor Yaşargil including basic microsurgical education, white matter dissection, and live surgeries, serving as a unique model, which takes place annually in June.
Dr. Türe served as Vice President of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society from June 2010 to June 2012, and President of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society from June 2012 to June 2014. He was President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) 16th World Congress of Neurosurgery, in Istanbul, Turkey, August 20-25, 2017. Currently he is “Honorary President of the WFNS” as well as member of numerous societies such as “American Academy of Neurological Surgery”, “World Academy of Neurological Surgery,” and “European Academy of Sciences and Arts”.
Dr. Türe is active as a member of the editorial boards of several medical journals such as “Neurosurgical Review”, “Operative Neurosurgery” and “Neurosurgery”.
Dr. Türe shows special interest in cultivating novel surgical techniques and shares the ambition to expand boundaries and limitations of current neurosurgery. He is specialized in cranial tumor and vascular neurosurgery as well as epilepsy surgery.
