Umberto was born and raised in Milan, Italy. At a young age he moved to Dubai, UAE where he completed his medical training. Throughout his training, he has worked on basic science and clinical research and collaborated with numerous institutions, including Indiana University, Cleveland Clinic, and Mediclinic Middle East. He developed an early interest in surgery, and neurosciences, and decided to pursue a career in neurosurgery. Through his research and clinical training, Umberto developed a passio for the intricacies of surgical practices and their real-world implications on patient outcomes. Recognizing the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the field, Umberto made the decision to join the Neuroinformatics Lab in October 2023, under the mentorship of Dr Mohamad Bydon. In the lab, he is using large databases to uncover insights into surgical outcomes and disparities in surgical care. He is also working on basic science research on spinal cord injury using rat models. Driven by a commitment to advancing the field of neurosurgery and improving patient care, Umberto continues to work on clinical and translational research, and hopes to leave a meaningful contribution to the landscape of surgical research and patient care.
