Originally from Las Cruces, NM, Danielle earned her BA in Biology at New Mexico State University in 2015 before starting at Yale to pursue her MD-PhD. In 2017, she began her Ph.D. in Genetics in Dr. Murat Gunel's laboratory, focusing on employing single-cell and spatial sequencing technologies to understand the molecular basis of meningioma tumorigenesis and microenvironment. Her research achievements led to her receiving an NIH F31 grant as a Principal Investigator, and she has published work in journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Nature Medicine, and the Journal of Neurosurgery. Beyond her academic accomplishments, Danielle co-founded the Yale Neurosurgery Cushing Society, the first American Association of Neurological Surgeons Chapter at Yale School of Medicine, and served as a Student Representative to the AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee for the 2021-2023 term. She was a Yale Medical School Admissions Committee member and represented the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences on the Student Advisory Committee for the Yale Presidential Search. Outside of Yale, Danielle serves on the board of directors for the non-profit Minorities in Medicine and is the founding curator of the Global Shapers Hub in New Haven, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, where she oversees teams driving projects in civic engagement, healthcare, and technology that have impacted thousands. After completing her joint degrees, Danielle hopes to train in neurosurgery, aspiring to combine her passion for research with her clinical interests to become a neurosurgeon-scientist.
