Dr. Langston Holly is a Professor of Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He has served as the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Neurosurgery since 2007, and was named Executive Vice Chair in 2022. He also leads the Department of Neurosurgery Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. He is Chief of the UCLA Neurosurgery Spine Division and Director of the Neurosurgery Spine Surgery Fellowship Program that he established in 2006. He is the Chair of the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine Faculty Executive Committee.
Dr. Holly has a number of clinical interests including cervical myelopathy, minimally invasive spine surgery, Chiari Malformation, and spinal cord tumors. In addition to a busy clinical practice, he is also an NIH funded Principal Investigator with continuous NIH funding since 2009. He completed a six-year term as a charter member of the NIH Acute Neural Injury and Epilepsy Study Section in 2020. He currently serves as a Co-Principal Investigator of the NIH/NINDS K12 Grant entitled the “Neurosurgeon Research Career Development Program.” He also serves as a mentor for the Women in Neurosurgery Mentorship Program.
Dr. Holly has won multiple teaching awards within the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine. He has been consistently named on the Best Doctors in America and America’s Top Surgeons lists. He has served a two-year term as the Chairman of the Neurosurgery/Neurology Section of the National Medical Association. He is a Past President of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Holly was awarded the Ruth and Raymond Stotter Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery in 2005. He is the lead Editor of a neurosurgical textbook entitled Essentials of Spinal Stabilization. He was awarded the Ulrich Batzdorf Endowed Chair in Spinal Neurosurgery in 2019. He was elected as a Director of the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 2022. He is currently an Associate Editor for the journal NEUROSURGERY.
One of his proudest achievements is throwing out the First Pitch at the Jackie Robinson 75th Anniversary Ceremony at Dodger Stadium on April 15, 2022.
