Dr. Bari serves as Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Bioengineering and Radiation Oncology at UCLA, where he also leads the Functional Neurosurgery Program. His journey in neurosurgery began at UCLA, where he completed his residency, followed by specialized training in functional neurosurgery at the University of Toronto as a William P. Van Wagenen Fellow.
Dr. Bari’s clinical interests include DBS for movement disorders, epilepsy, addiction, and chronic pain. His research focuses on human neuronal recordings to study the circuitry underlying reward, addiction, and pain. Currently, he spearheads an NIH-funded, first-in-human clinical trial investigating DBS of the subgenual cingulate cortex as a novel treatment for chronic low back pain.
Dr. Bari holds MD and PhD degrees from Boston University. A native of California, he received his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology from UC Berkeley.
