Rick C. Sasso MD is Professor and Chief of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is also founder and President of the Indiana Spine Group and Indiana Spine Hospital. Dr. Sasso is the current past-President of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
Dr. Sasso holds 19 United States patents and numerous more patents that are international. His academic area of interest is in disorders of the cervical spine. He designed and developed a universal posterior cervical screw/rod system that has been the worldwide market leader for two decades. This type of device has revolutionized our ability to stabilize the craniocervical and cervicothoracic junctions which are areas of passion for Dr. Sasso.
Dr. Sasso implanted the first cervical artificial disc in the United States 20 years ago. He continues to study the long-term outcomes of cervical Arthroplasty. Dr. Sasso has published over 150 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and he has written over 80 book chapters.
Dr. Sasso has also been intimately involved in intraoperative image navigation technology and the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
