Irakliy Abramov, M.D., Ph.D., is a Russian-trained neurosurgeon working as a neurosurgery research fellow at the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI).
Dr. Abramov works at the Loyal and Edith Davis Neurosurgery Laboratory under Dr. Mark C. Preul, the director of neurosurgery research at the BNI. He underwent neurosurgical training at Burdenko Neurosurgical Institute in Moscow from 2013 to 2018, under Prof. David Pitskhelauri. In 2019, he received his Ph.D. in pineal cyst management. His clinical experience incorporates treating patients with superficial and deep-seated tumors (including tumors of the ventricular system, pineal region tumors, thalamic and brain stem tumors, etc.), cavernous malformations, and drug-resistant epilepsy.
Dr. Abramov's clinical research interests include neuro-oncology, surgical neuroanatomy and cerebrovascular disease. As a research fellow at the BNI, Dr. Abramov has produced numerous projects in neuroanatomy specific to the jugular foramen, petroclival and pineal regions, and other brain regions. Dr. Abramov's research on applying the confocal laser endomicroscopy for brain tumors has resulted in multiple publications in high-impact journals and prestigious awards from the tumor section of the AANS/CNS joint conference.
Dr. Abramov's future aspirations include completing a neurosurgical residency in the United States and becoming a board-certified neurosurgeon.
