Rebecca Calafiore, MD is a fourth-year neurosurgery resident at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she graduated in 2020 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She is currently spending her research year investigating the use of a synthetic extracellular matrix to augment placental derived stem cell therapy for acute spinal cord injury at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) and won the Resident Basic Science Gold Award for her research on the topic. She has specific interest in DBS for movement disorders as well as epilepsy and plans to pursue a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery after completing residency.
