Scientist
Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, US
My journey in the medical field has been both rewarding and purpose-driven, marked by a dedication to advancing neurological surgery and global health. Born in Trabzon, Türkiye, I embarked on this path at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, fueling a passion that led me to roles across Türkiye and the United States, including serving as a General Practitioner and a Neurohospitalist in Türkiye before joining the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, WI as a Scientist I. My academic endeavors have been enriched by research fellowships at renowned institutions such as Yale Neurogenetics Laboratories and the University of Wisconsin Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center, allowing me to explore the intersections of neurogenetics, stem cell research, and neurosurgery.
My commitment to making a global impact materialized through the founding of the Madison Microneurosurgery Initiative, aimed at empowering healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries through advanced training and resources in microneurosurgery. This initiative is a testament to my belief in the power of education and collaboration to transcend geographical and economic barriers, improving surgical standards and patient care worldwide. My work, recognized by peers and celebrated through various awards, is not just a professional endeavor but a personal mission to bridge gaps in healthcare access and knowledge. Through continued research, teaching, and international collaboration, I aspire to further the frontiers of neurosurgery and contribute to a global community where quality healthcare is accessible to all.
