Dr. Chirag Gandhi obtained his B.S in Bioengineering from Columbia University in 1993, an M.S in Genetics from Boston University in 1995, and his M.D. from UMDNJ- NJ Medical School in 2000. He went on to complete a Neurosurgery residency under Dr. Kalmon Post at Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY, in 2006, during which he also did an enfolded fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology. He stayed at Mount Sinai completing a fellowship in Endovascular Neurosurgery in 2007 with Dr. Aman Patel.
In 2007, Dr. Gandhi joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Rutgers University- NJ Medical School in Newark, NJ under the leadership of Dr. Peter Carmel, where he focused on developing an academic practice in Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery. Over the next decade, he served in many clinical and administrative roles eventually rising to the level of Program Director of both the Neurosurgery Residency and Endovascular Neurosurgery Fellowship, Chief of Neurovascular Surgery, and Interim-Chair of the department. At the time of his departure in 2017, he held the academic rank of Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Radiology and was honored with a faculty appointment to the AOA Medical Society. In 2017, Dr. Gandhi joined Westchester Medical Center at NY Medical College in Valhalla, NY as the Chief of Neurovascular Surgery and Program Director of the residency and fellowship programs. He now holds the academic title of Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Radiology and in 2019 has been promoted to the Director of Neurosurgery for the Westchester Medical Center Health Network and in 2020 became the Chair of Neurosurgery at New York Medical College. Dr. Gandhi's main clinical and research focus is in care of patients with cerebrovascular disorders, with a particular interest in cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, and stroke. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications, he continues to contribute to the field of Neurovascular Surgery. Education has been another major focus of his career through his dedicated work with medical students, residents, and fellows and in his new role as Director of Neurosurgery, he is currently focused on delivery of high quality neurosurgery through an entire health network.
