Samir Alsalek, BS, is a 4th-year student at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM). He was born and raised in Syria and initially attended the Damascus University School of Medicine. During the Syrian civil war, Samir immigrated to the United States and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), earning a degree in psychobiology with emphasis on neuroscience. He founded the KPSOM inaugural chapter of AANS and served as its president. Samir is committed to a career in neurosurgery and research; his interests include neuroimmunology, surgical oncology, and spine surgery.
