Neurosurgeon
Department of Neurosurgery, Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix, 85013, Arizona, USA, US
My name is Sahin Hanalioglu, I am currently neurosurgery research fellow at the Barrow Neurological Institute. I am a physician-scientist (MD-PhD) with a diverse background in both neuroscience and neurosurgery. As a young neurosurgeon, my career goal is to bring innovation into neurosurgical training, research and practice by developing, adopting, integrating and refining novel technologies. I also have a deep interest in microsurgical and white matter neuroanatomy since I believe that they help us not only better understand brain structure and function, but also master in neurosurgical techniques to improve the survival and quality of life of our patients. My training and research background have allowed me to distill various fundamental neurosurgical, neuroanatomic and neuroscientific perspectives and principles, and harmonize them to lead the innovation for future neurosurgery. Besides my formal dual MD-PhD training, I have published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, 100+ abstracts, and interacted with the world-class neurosurgeons around the world such as Profs. M. Lawton, O.Al-Mefty, M.Baskaya, H.Duffau to further specialize in cerebrovascular, skull base and neurooncologic surgery. Besides, in the first 5 years of my career, I have operated on more than 1000+ neurosurgical cases including complex aneurysms, AVMs and brain tumors. Moreover, before joining the BNI as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, I have worked with several academic institutions and industry partners in Turkey to develop personalized 3D digital and printed models of neurosurgical cases as well as new simulation tools to enhance neurosurgical training and surgical planning. Thus, I believe that all the knowledge, skills and experience that I acquired in the past years will guide me in achieving this integrative project that aims to transform the current neuroanatomy training of neurosurgeons and will be a great asset for the BNI in leading the neurosurgical education and research globally.
