Dr. Jonathan Russin M.D is an associate professor of neurological surgery at the University of Southern California and a visiting associate in medical engineering at the California Institute of Technology. His subspecialty is complex open cerebrovascular surgery with a focus on novel bypass techniques. Dr. Russin's clinical contributions include describing the first use of free-flap and pedicled flow-through techniqes for combined revascularization, improvements in anastomotic techniques, introduction of unique graft vessels, the use of botulinum toxin for graft spasmolysis and the first description of direct spinal cord revascularization prior to endovascular treatment of complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms. He has been funded through the NIH/NINDS for his clinical research. Dr. Russin also has a research interest in advanced imaging techniques that leverage neurovascular coupling to facilitate functional brain imaging. He is co-first author on the article describing the first in-human functional brain imaging using photoacoustic computed tomography.
