As of December 2023, Dr. Jacques Morcos is Chairman of the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery; Professor, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston; Nancy, Clive and Pierce Runnels Distinguished Chair in Neuroscience; Director, Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery; Co-Director, UTHealth Houston Neurosciences in Houston, Texas. Prior to that he was Professor and Co-Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami where he spent 28 years.
His range of clinical and research expertise includes all skull base and complex brain tumors, endoscopic skull base surgery, radiosurgery and all aspects of cerebrovascular surgery including AVMs, cavernomas, bypass surgery for complex aneurysms, Moyamoya and ischemic disease. Dr. Morcos is very active in organized and academic neurosurgery, nationally and internationally.
He is Past Chair or Past President of:
-The Joint AANS/CNS Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery
-The North American Skull Base Society (NASBS)
-The Society of University Neurosurgeons (SUN)
-The World Association of Lebanese Neurosurgeons (WALN)
He currently serves the following organizations, among others:
-AANS: President-Elect, 2023-24
-WFNS: Delegate and Past Chair, Constitution & Bylaws Committee
-American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (AAcNS): Past-Chair, Scientific Committee
-World Academy of Neurological Surgeons (WANS): Elected Member
He serves on several Editorial Boards, including “Journal of Neurosurgery”, “Neurosurgery”, “World Neurosurgery”, “Journal of Neurological Surgery Part B: Skull Base” and others.
His academic and scholarly activities as of December 2023 include:

Approximately 1000 invited national and international presentations
91 Visiting Professorships/Guest Lectureships
He has trained 25 Cerebrovascular/Skull Base Fellows to date.
He prides himself in his ability to build bridges and generate collaborations and consensus in national and international neurosurgical affairs and has fostered numerous friendships and alliances across the globe. He thrives on taking care of patients with complex intracranial disease, mentoring younger faculty and trainees and imparting the love for, art in and skill of neurosurgical techniques through national and global educational venues.
