Improving outcomes for patients with devastating neurological diseases remains the basis behind my passion for pursuing a career as a neurosurgeon-scientist. I am currently a PGY-6 neurosurgery resident at the University of Chicago. During my PGY-5 and PGY-6 years, I elected to join the labs of Maciej Lesniak, MD and Catalina Lee-Chang, PhD at Northwestern University to further explore my interest in cancer immunology research. I developed this interest while studying the immune microenvironment of glioblastoma during my Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Research Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, under the mentorship of Manish Aghi, MD, PhD and Hideho Okada, MD, PhD. Over the past year and a half, I have had the privilege of investigating a novel B-cell-based vaccine (BVax), developed by Dr. Lee-Chang. The details of this vaccine can be found in our recent publication in the Journal of Experimental Medicine (PMID: 32991668). I have been studying the role of humoral immunity in the therapeutic efficacy of BVax. I received the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) Research Fellowship Grant to support this project. I am excited to share my work at this years meeting.
